I am inclined to say that usually in programming, axes follow indexing - meaning (0, 0) is the origin, x-axis goes from left to right, y-axis from top to bottom.
If you add an explicit description of what is the origin and how to follow the axes (emphasizing bottom-to-top for the y-axis), it will be much clearer.

Thanks for your answer! Yes it is inverted in that sense. But that is how the y-axis in math or here more precisely the imaginary axis is usually depicted (axis increases values while going upwards). Should I clarify in the description? If I still missunderstand the issue just let me know :)

Because for this example which is on the positive side of the imaginary axis I get the correct coresponding picture:
`mandelbrot_string(-1.15, 0.26, 45, 20, 1.4e-3, 60)`
