Fun, feels like an 8 kyu to me now.

because it's readable and the intention is clear; no one can seem to figure out why .digits does what it does

this kata includes input validation, as hinted in the very last line of the description:

Return "" for empty, nil or non numeric strings

your code throws an error because the int() constructor cannot convert those non-numerical strings and fails

Translating it to C/C++ or NASM seems like a joke.
