Same like my solution. Glad I remembered enumerate() but forgot I can add starting index argument :D
That way all the numbers are stored in memory and don't have to be (re)computed for every function call.
Why do you calculate the numbers outer the main function
It would be better if basic tests included not only chars but strings too.
Maybe because it doesn't work (try it and you'll see).
