I can confirm the difference between the Kata Trainer and the Kata Creator.
Please let us know if you ever find out what's causing it. I'm very curious.
But for now I replaced all literal katagana strings with manually utf-8 encoded strings and that issue is fixed.

You need to choose the correct language version there before running the tests.
